There is no other place like Bali. The Island of the Gods offers great beaches, countless waves for surfing and wonderful natural sites to visit and explore, colorful ceremonies, and gifted artists. There is an unbelievably wide range of restaurants, spas and world-class activities and shopping – all within close distance and at very fair prices. There is a special vibe, an essence, something authentic that is difficult to describe, which has touched and inspired visitors from all over the world since decades. It has something to do with the Balinese themselves and their warm and welcoming character.
Lovina is a quiet coastal town on the North Bali coastline 5 km west of the city of Singaraja. Diving, snorkeling and dolphin watching are the main activities, but perhaps above all else, this is an area in which to relax and take in a very slow, traditional pace of life. The beaches are generally safe for swimming, and the waters of Bali’s north coast, in direct contrast to the crashing surf of the south, are relatively calm.
Singaraja is the largest city in North Bali, and the former colonial administrative capital of Bali. Singaraja still has some of the feel of an old colonial capital. Singaraja was also an administrative center for the Japanese during their World War II occupation. Gedong Kirtya, just south of the town centre, is the only library of lontar manuscripts.
Ubud is considered in many ways Bali’s cultural heart. Located in the cool mountains, just one hour drive from the north of Bali and the south of Bali. Around Ubud the surrounding villages are specialist in crafts and woodcarving which are sold all over the island. There are hundreds of shops selling antiques, woodcarvings, crafts, textiles, paintings and jewelry as well as some of the best art museums in the country, dozens of art studios, an excellent local craft market and galleries.
Denpasar is the capital of Bali. Situated on the Bali island, it is known worldwide as a major tourist destination, and is the main gateway to Bali. The city is also a hub for other cities. Denpasar might not be a tropical paradise, but it’s as much a part of ‘the real Bali’ as the rice paddies and clifftop temples. This is the hub of the island for more than one million locals and here you will find their shopping malls and parks.
